What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a system allowing libraries to borrow materials that they do not own from other libraries. The Bryan Library provides ILL services free of charge for current Bryan College faculty, staff, and students who need materials that are not available in the Bryan Library’s collection.

What is ILL?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a system allowing libraries to borrow materials that they do not own from other libraries. The Bryan Library provides ILL services free of charge for current Bryan College faculty, staff, and students who need materials that are not available in the Bryan Library’s collection.

Am I guaranteed to get any book or article I request?

Despite best efforts on all parts, ILL orders are not always able to be filled (whether due to availability, cost, etc.). Requests are not guaranteed to be fulfilled.

How long can I keep an ILL book?

This varies from library to library. It is dependent on the loan rules of the library we borrow the book from, the lending library. It can vary anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months.

How do I renew my ILL book?

Renewals are also dependent on the lending library's loan rules. To request a renewal, email the ILL account (ill@bryan.edu) 3 days before the due date with your book title and requested length of renewal. You will receive an email letting you know if your renewal request was approved or denied by the lending library.

What is the delivery time frame for an ILL request?

Delivery time is dependent on many factors, such as where the material is located and how quickly a library is able to respond to requests. In most cases, journal article requests are available within one to three days and will be sent to you through email. Physical book loans may vary widely, due in part to availability and distance. We ask that you allow for a minimum of 2 weeks.
